The 50mm prime is often not the natural choice of wedding photographers. It is not ideally suited for portraits, especially if you plan to shoot close to the subject. Having said that, there are some photographers who would have one of their camera bodies mounted with a 50mm lens for the entire duration of the shoot.

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G: This is less expensive than the Canon 50mm, but still has many great features, and is among the best for wedding photography. It has a fast aperture range from 1.8 to 16 making it great for low lighting, integrated coating for great color in your shots, and a silent wave motor for precise autofocusing.

I started out the day with the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D that I purchased from Josh Mackey, and then let Tanya use it for the rest of the day. I then switched over to my venerable nikkor 17-55mm f/2.8, which remained on the camera throughout the wedding and reception. Special thanks again to Wence Estrada for helping with the lighting.
